If the object was to fill seats by having only one, well-done performance of a popular opera from the standard repertoire, the company succeeded. It was beautiful to look at, thanks to scenic designer Robert Little, lighting designer John E. Reviewed by Sherri Strichman Disclosure: I love Rossini opera. So why did it take so long Friday night (Feb. 6) for me to warm up to Tri-Cities Opera’s new production of The Italian Girl in Algiers? The singing was very good. Director Dorothy Danner gave her young and energetic cast a lively staging.  The orchestra, led by William Hobbs, ably supported the singers and the drama. Reviewed by Tony Villecco I attended Wednesday's final dress rehearsal (Oct. 24) of Giacomo Puccini’s operatic masterpiece La Bohème, and while there were a few kinks yet to iron out, it was beautiful and musically fulfilling. Tri-Cities Opera will present two performances this weekend with an overall strong cast. No dress rehearsal is without its challenges; at times, the orchestra overshadowed the principals, especially in ensemble.
