Reviewed by Tony Villecco The Summer Savoyards' has successfully mounted a fun, colorful and energetic production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s perennial favorite operetta, The Mikado. Friday’s house (July 17) at Binghamton University was quite full with an appreciative audience who kept up with the unique British humor sprinkled with modern-day references. After a clean, if somewhat literal, interpretation of the overture, the fine orchestra kept a brisk pace throughout under the direction of Kimberly Bemis Tyler. Reviewed by George Basler For the past several years, Daniel Kermidas has been working to turn his grandmother’s stories of growing up in Endicott into a musical, Golden Days. A year ago, an unfinished version of the show had a workshop production at the Endicott Performing Arts Center (BAMirror coverage). After some revisions, Kermidas brought Golden Days back to EPAC this past weekend for a full-scale production featuring a cast of 41 and an 11-piece orchestra, conducted by Kermidas. Reviewed by Nancy Oliveri You have three more opportunities as of this writing, to see the Summer Savoyards' funny, updated and slightly twisted take on the Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe. In Iolanthe: Re-Vamped, the fairies of the original operetta are vampires, hence the title. I was fortunate to have seen the opening night performance, and it was really fun.
