Binghamton Youth Symphony Orchestra

The Binghamton Youth Symphony Orchestra was organized in 1961 (one of the oldest such organizations in the country) to promote and enrich the music education of young people in the Southern Tier. Our members represent 20 school districts and 37 schools.

BYSO consists of two orchestras. First organized in 1961, the Senior Orchestra consists primarily of area high school students, who play a standard symphony repertoire. The Preparatory Orchestra, organized in 1967, consists primarily of middle and elementary music students, who perform more challenging music than they normally would in school. The BYSO performs a winter and a spring concert, as well as a concert for local schools entitled “Introduction to the Orchestra”.
