“Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps” Concert
January 21 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm$5 - $15
Olivier Messiaen’s monumental suite Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps (Quartet for the End of Time) will be performed at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21 in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall at Binghamton University. Associate Professor and Interim Chair of the Music Department, Paul Schleuse, will offer brief introductory comments, followed by the performance with Binghamton University Music faculty members: clarinetist Timothy Perry; pianist Margaret Reitz; cellist Zachary Sweet; and violinist Noemi Miloradovic. The piece was composed during World War II in a prisoner of war camp and is a landmark work of twentieth-century chamber music. Its seven movements, each a deep reflection on themes of the Apocalypse expressed in the Book of Revelations, is the perhaps most powerful musical and emotional tour de force in Music.
Tickets are available at the Anderson Center Box Office from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays, by calling 607-777-ARTS, online (anderson.binghamton.edu) or at the door.
