Full performance week planned at BU

Submitted by Sarah Kuras

Hello, readers! It has been a busy few weeks for me while the semester is wrapping up. I just wanted to quickly write about a few performances this week at Binghamton University that I hope you will attend.

At 7 p.m. Thursday (May 5) in the Anderson Center, Nukporfe, the African Music Ensemble led by Dr. James Burns, will be performing. This free show will feature dancers from the beginning and advanced classes as well as members of the ensemble. We will be dancing, drumming and singing traditional songs from West Africa.

This weekend has a multitude of recitals sponsored by our Music Department. At 3 p.m. Saturday (May 7), graduate student Robert Muller will be giving his final master’s recital on French horn with works by Strauss and Beethoven. Later that day at 8 p.m., soprano Briana Sakamoto will be giving her senior recital. Briana has worked with Tri-Cities Opera and has given many recitals through the years here at Binghamton. I personally always enjoy her performances, because she always puts her own personal twist on the program in the most exciting ways.

At 1 p.m. Sunday (May 8), Molly Adams-Toomey and Samantha Banton will be giving a joint voice recital, performing works by Schumann, Mozart and Bellini.

These three recitals are free and will take place in Casadesus Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building on campus.
