The Broome County Arts Council, located at 81 State Street, Suite 501, Stephens Square Bldg., Binghamton, will hold a news conference at 10:30am Thursday, September 4th to introduce the winners of  its Heart of the Arts Awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award and, new this year, the Frederick R. Xlander Emerging Artist Award.   The awards recognize individuals who have made significant recent and long-term contributions to the arts in Broome County,  while the inaugural Xlander Award will encourage the development of a promising visual artist.   Award recipients will be available for interviews immediately following the news conference and light refreshments will be served.
Award ceremonies will take place during the 10th Heart of the Arts Award Celebration & $10K Challenge at 6:00pm, Monday, September 22nd in the DoubleTree Hotel Grand Ballroom, 225 Water Street in downtown Binghamton.  The Celebration will feature special performances by the dance company “Galumpha”,  Tri-Cities Opera, SRO Productions III, Binghamton Youth Symphony, Binghamton Poetry Project, and more.   Proceeds will benefit the United Cultural Fund, the arts council’s annual combined campaign for the arts.   The event title sponsor is IBM and other, major sponsors  include The Lost Dog Cafe’, Susan Kirkland, Chemung Canal Trust, and People’s Trust Bank.  Tickets are $45 for general admission or $40 for arts council member, and may be purchased on-line at  www.broomearts.org/HOTA.  To reserve tickets or for more information , e-mail information@broomearts.org or call 607-723-4620.
